Are you motivated by designing innovative structural composite solutions-and passionate about ensuring these concepts can be manufactured efficiently, with high quality and future automation in mind? If you want to help shape the next generation of wind turbine blades by bridging advanced structural engineering with real world production, quality, and automation considerations then this is a really exciting opportunity!

Vestas Technology & Operations > Transformation, Enablement & Innovation > Materials & Sustainable Scaling

In Innovation & Concepts, we work on early-stage technology development and next generation blade concepts. We combine deep engineering expertise with practical understanding of manufacturing realities, quality requirements, and emerging automation opportunities. Our team collaborates closely across structures, materials, manufacturing, automation, aerodynamics, loads, and controls to bring new ideas from concept to industrialization.

Responsibilities

In this cross functional role, you will bridge structural engineering with design for manufacturing and new production technologies:

  • Develop structural concepts for composite blades with a clear focus on manufacturability and process robustness
  • Integrate structural design with design for manufacturing principles to ensure feasible, scalable and automation ready solutions
  • Evaluate new manufacturing processes (e.g. advanced infusion methods, automated layup, digital process control) and assess their impact on design
  • Identify opportunities where automation can improve repeatability, quality, and throughput
  • Collaborate closely with structural, materials, manufacturing, automation, and quality teams in Vestas and with external partners

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in mechanical, structural, composite engineering, or similar
  • Some years of experience in structural design, preferably within composite structures
  • Solid understanding of composite manufacturing processes and design for manufacturing / design for quality principles
  • Awareness of automation technologies and how they interact with structural and manufacturing requirements
  • Experience from the wind industry or large-scale composite manufacturing is an advantage, especially familiarity with wind turbine blade manufacturing processes

Competencies

  • A practical, solutions-driven approach paired with clear problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think holistically across structural performance, manufacturing feasibility, automation potential, and quality robustness
  • Effective communicator who collaborates effectively across disciplines
  • Organized and able to lead work from concept through early industrialization
  • Fluent in English

What we offer

This is a highly cross-functional position that affects both blade design and the development of future manufacturing technologies. You will work in close collaboration with experts across structural engineering, manufacturing, automation, and quality. You will get the opportunity to shape how early-stage blade concepts become viable industrial solutions. We are an innovative, highly collaborative team within a global organization based at Vestas headquarters in Aarhus
