Vestas Factory

Join us in architecting high‑performance embedded software that powers and drives the next generation of wind energy.

If you are passionate about building robust software solutions, leading the architecture of large-scale embedded and real-time systems, and driving best-practice software development, this role is for you.

We are looking for a technical leader with strong stakeholder management skills and deep expertise in C++ and embedded software engineering, ready to navigate a complex and fast-paced environment.

Vestas Technology & Operations > Research & Development (R&D) > Product Applications & Controls R&D > Turbine Control Software Module > Technical Management

Vestas Technology & Operations (VTO) brings together R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality into one integrated organization, ensuring our products meet high standards for quality, efficiency, and time-to-market.

Within VTO, the “WTG Controls” solution is a team of skilled engineers and specialists across India, Portugal, and Denmark. We organized in SAFe/FlowAgile ARTs and develop advanced software solutions that support the turbine performance including the control system.

Our work is rooted in strong systems engineering principles, with a focus on delivering robust, high-quality software across the full product lifecycle. We take ownership end-to-end — from design to delivery — and continuously push the boundaries of what turbine software can achieve.

Responsibilities

As a Software Architect for Turbine Software, you will report to the Module Design Owner for Turbine SW and play a central role in defining and safeguarding the software architecture that powers all Vestas wind turbines. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the architecture, design, and evolution of high-performance, safety-critical embedded software systems primarily developed in modern C++ (C++17/20 and beyond)
  • Collaborate across engineering and cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment. Define and own the software architecture guidelines for the WTG Control solution with ~400 people. Translate business and technical requirements into clear architectural solutions and development guidelines
  • Define and enforce coding standards, architectural patterns, and best practices for scalable, maintainable, and testable systems. Write high‑quality, performance, and testable code, and analyze complex legacy and modern codebases to implement fixes and improvements
  • Ensure better support for the utilization of AI agentic frameworks for development
  • Provide expert troubleshooting and operational support for products, tools, and customer‑reported issues
  • Promote continuous integration and automated testing practices for embedded (e.g., unit testing frameworks and hardware-in-the-loop testing). Maintain and update comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture descriptions and interface specifications, to support software functionality and lifecycle management
  • Drive continuous improvement by enhancing processes, tools, and developing utilities that support operations and maintenance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Familiarity with software architecture principles, including modular design, layered architecture, and interface-driven and modular development
  • Extensive experience in modern C++ development, with strong knowledge of recent language features (C++17/20 and beyond). Demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role within a large Agile software development organization
  • Proven experience in embedded software development preferably in real-time and/or safety-critical systems. Knowledge about Docker and Linux. Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps
  • Beneficial with knowledge from RTOS2 or other open-source real-time operating systems
  • General knowledge or experience in Secure Product Development and Cyber Security is beneficial
  • Ability and motivation to understand complex technical domains, system behavior, and low-level software interactions
  • Experience with AI agentic frameworks

Competencies

We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates the following competencies and personal attributes:

  • Strong technical leadership within C++ and embedded systems domains, with the ability to guide and mentor engineers
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate with remote, multi‑location teams
  • Proficient English communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possesses a global mindset with deep cultural understanding
  • Applies a systems engineering approach to problem‑solving and decision‑making
  • Builds trust and influence through effective leadership and stakeholder management
  • Results‑oriented, open‑minded, and thrives in an international, multicultural environment

What we offer

We offer an exciting opportunity to take full lifecycle responsibility for a key area of the turbine software system. You will join a highly adaptive and empowered team where you are encouraged to make decisions, drive initiatives, and implement your own solutions.

In this role, you will build a broad network across a truly global organization, gaining extensive opportunities for cross‑disciplinary collaboration and personal development. You will be part of a result-oriented environment that maintains a high professional standard and a strong commitment to technical excellence.

Most importantly, you will work with a clear sense of purpose—understanding the value of your contributions and how your work directly supports the global effort to address climate change.
