Research & Development (R&D) is responsible for developing, verifying, and industrialising wind turbines and related products. It is here that we lay Vestas' technical- and technological foundation for staying the global leader in sustainable energy solutions by continuously reducing the Levelized Cost of Energy.
Through innovation, development, and continuous product improvement, we develop the products and technologies that reduce the cost of energy and bring the highest possible value to our customers and to Vestas. To put it short: Vestas Research & Development delivers the sustainable energy solutions of the future.
Powertrain Module is responsible for developing the full Powertrain program for both onshore and offshore. The main design elements are Main Bearing arrangement, Gearbox and Generator as well as supporting auxiliary components. The team is delivering optimal solutions covering the full value chain.
Powertrain Technical Management is a cross functional sub-department of the Powertrain Module. The department is accountable for final approval of module requirements, design solutions, technical quality, risks and solutions that are developed in the Powertrain sub-modules. The team is tasked with conducting feasibility studies alongside the preliminary outlining of Powertrain projects, while also facilitating alignment across various functions and the entire value chain. The team is also propelling the advancement of technology for the next generation of powertrains.

Responsibilities
You will be directly reporting to the Powertrain Module Design Owner and in close collaboration with Project Manager, Senior Function Leads and the different Sub-Modules Technical leads. You will provide technical project leadership throughout all stages of the projects.
Main activities under this responsibility will include:

  • Deliver the projects according to Safety, Quality, Time and Cost requirements
  • Being responsible for delivering the best quality/time technical solution across all sub-modules and module and breaking down Product requirements towards the Powertrain sub-modules
  • Guide & coach, the project team, align technical solutions, design & development work and timeline with relevant technical subject-matter experts
  • Identify technical risks and implement mitigation strategies together with the Technical Leads and Project Manager
  • Evaluate scope change requests with respect to technical risk, competence needs/gap and impact on project/product targets
  • Prepare and implement peer and technical reviews, and approve the content delivered in the work packages within those reviews
  • Ensure that our processes are followed along the entire value chain and contribute to a continuous improvement of processes and way of working

 

Qualifications

  • M. Sc./B. Sc. in e.g. Mechanical, Electromechanical engineering
  • 6+ years of proven experience in product development (desirable within drive technology)
  • Proficient in handling multifaceted issues across worldwide project teams
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English is necessary
  • Knowledge of six-sigma/system engineering tools, e.g., requirement management and DFMEA
  • Familiarity with operating in global matrix organizations or the wind industry may benefit your application
  • Knowledge of product cost basis, planning, and value chain processes
