The Converter & Electrical (C&E) Module is part of Vestas R&D organization Power Solutions. The Converter Circuit Design team with C&E Module is an essential contributor in making the current and future wind turbines more efficient and cost effective by developing the electrical power conversion components such as power stack (power electronics). This is done by being responsible for development and maintenance of the components according to the full value chain requirements. All Vestas products are based on internally developed converters since electrical power conversion is at the core of how a wind turbine performs, operates, and interacts with the electrical grid.

The daily work will be within a broad network of stakeholders and together with the electrical specialists you will set the standard for tomorrow design. With an engineering background in power conversion your main role will be to participate in and coordinate the design of the power electronics in our converters.

You will be a part of the Converter Circuit Design team. The Converter Circuit Design team consists of 20 highly skilled designers and specialists located in Aarhus, Denmark and Porto, Portugal.



As Specialist in Power Electronics, you will report to the Converter Circuit Design Manager within Converter and Electrical Module in Vestas.

Your main responsibilities and tasks will be in the domain of Power electronic converters, circuits and technology.

Serial product or system development:

  • Define and coordinate technical part of Converter projects
  • Establishment of requirement specification & stakeholder interests, use case analysis
  • Evaluation of architecture, proof-of-concept demonstration
  • Analysis & simulation
  • Main circuit electrical, mechanical, and thermal design
  • Component & supplier selection
  • Reliability analysis
  • Verification through test and analysis
  • Systems Engineering process adherence through concept-requirements-design-verification-handover


Specific knowledge of:

  • Power semiconductors
  • Define solutions, including power supply, fault detection
  • Semiconductor cooling (liquid and air)
  • Capacitors, laminated bus, insulators, sensors
  • Design for harsh environments
  • Failure modes for power electronic stacks & components
  • Analysis, modelling, simulation, simulation tools.
  • Lab testing and verification methodology for specific reliability targets



  • Coordinate suppliers and contractors as integral partners in development
  • Engage in Design for Manufacturing
  • Concise communication in English
  • Formulation of tasks and delegation to colleagues and consultants/contractors
  • Review and assure quality in colleagues’ work
  • You will be coaching and guiding colleagues as well as deliver own contribution to projects
  • Other characteristics for functional leadership



  • Master in a relevant area, i.e., power electronics, electrical engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years of working experience with Power Electronic design and development
  • Experienced in project execution in matrix organization
  • Good leadership and communication skills and capable of acting as a motivator
  • Capable of defining the vision within the power electronic field and defining activities supporting the vision
  • Good communication skills in English orally and written
  • Capable of delivering short term results without losing the long-term vision
