Vestas Technology & Operations > Research & Development (R&D) > Converter & Electrical Technical Management

Vestas Technology & Operations (VTO) is the integrated CTO and COO organization within Vestas, encompassing the full industrial value chain — from Research & Development, Procurement and Manufacturing to Supply Chain and Quality. VTO’s mission is to transform the way Vestas engineers, sources, contracts, manufactures and delivers its products to consistently meet the highest standards for quality, cost efficiency and time-to-market.

The Converter & Electrical (C&E) Module is responsible for developing the technologies and products that form the electrical backbone of the wind turbine. This includes frequency converters, their control systems, and high‑voltage components such as transformers, switchgear, and internal turbine cables. The C&E Module is organized into several Sub‑Modules, each dedicated to a specific electrical component area, and supported by a Technical Management (TM) Sub‑Module. The TM team sets the overall technical direction for the module and ensures alignment and coherence across all engineering functions.

Within the Technical Management team, the Module Technical Lead (MTL) plays a central role. As an MTL, you are responsible for managing the technical execution of major product development projects, guiding them from the initial concept phase through to the start of manufacturing. This includes defining the project scope and requirements, managing interfaces between different technical areas, ensuring quality and compliance, and driving risk management activities. You act as a key facilitator for multidisciplinary engineering teams, enabling them to work effectively and ensuring that technical decisions follow best‑practice engineering principles. Stakeholder communication and alignment across functions are also essential parts of the role.

The MTL reports to the Module Design Owner and works closely with colleagues across Vestas’ global organization. Collaboration spans the full value chain and involves design hubs located in Denmark, Portugal, and India.

Responsibilities

As Module Technical Lead, you will have the technical responsibility of the deliverables within project(s). You will also practice dotted line technical delegation to the Sub Module Technical Leads in addition to the following responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute design work in large, complex development projects, ensuring sufficient technical depth through expert engagement
  • Support and guide both the core and extended technical teams throughout the project, complementing line management responsibilities
  • Ensure project teams identify required tasks and follow best‑practice systems engineering processes
  • Own relevant elements of technical risk assessment and mitigation, particularly during value engineering and negotiation phases
  • Define and steer methodologies for design, development, and quality assurance, including integration and engineering change management
  • Prepare and conduct technical reviews, reporting progress, risks, and decisions to senior management and key stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Marine, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Solid working knowledge of Systems Engineering methods, including DFMEA, ConOps, requirement formulation, and functional modelling
  • Minimum of six years of relevant industry experience
  • Advantageous to have specialization in at least one Converter & Electrical (C&E) component area:
  1. Frequency converters (power electronics design or control/software)
  2. High‑voltage transformers
  3. Switchgear
  4. Cable systems or
  5. Low‑voltage distribution
  • Understanding of project‑management methodologies, preferably PRINCE2 or Agile/Scrum
  • Experience working within structured product‑development processes and internal engineering procedures
  • Demonstrated stakeholder‑management experience across the full value chain

Competencies

We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates the following competencies and personal attributes:

  • Energetic, positive, and enthusiastic mindset, combined with a readiness and a clear "can‑do" attitude
  • Proactive and results‑oriented approach, with a high level of personal accountability
  • Effective and consistent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable taking on a “leader within the team” role, guiding and influencing without formal line authority
  • Able to structure and manage your own work independently, maintaining momentum and focus
  • Skilled at coordinating and driving activities across different cultures and time zones
  • Committed to high‑quality work, demonstrating a thorough quality mindset in all deliverables
