As part of Vestas' modularization journey, every technological area is considered a different Module. Within each Module, the Module Design Owner (MDO) is the most senior Engineering responsible leader, being accountable for all technical aspects of the Module. The role is responsible for the Technology Roadmap of the Module and ensuring the setting of SW engineering best practices for all engineers to deliver against. It is also responsible for the delivery of SW projects and the lifecycle Management of the turbine SW of Vestas installed fleet.

 

With the increase expected of Wind Turbine volumes, the quality of the SW that we deliver to our customers, and a solid architecture to sustain it, supported by the right engineering best practices, is of the utmost importance, so this is a critical leadership position within Vestas.

 

Responsibilities

You will report to the Module Owner of Turbine SW and oversee, mentor and develop the team of Senior Functional Leads. More specifically, your responsibilities will be:

  • Acting as a technical interface from TCSW to the rest of the value chain
  • Steer the design and development of software-embedded systems for Vestas Turbines, ensuring they are scalable, robust, and easy to maintain
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to Software Engineers throughout the SW Development lifecycle
  • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, tools and frameworks for embedded software development
  • Support adherence, development and improvement of relevant processes, tools & metrics from market input, through architecture and roadmap to product and module project processes
  • Strategy - Module strategic direction influencing structural setup and competencies
  • Define and implement software architecture and software development best practice guidelines
  • Highly committed to Software quality, performance and reliability

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in software engineering, with relevant experience in SW Engineering leadership roles for embedded systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of software design principles, patterns, and best practices, with a systems engineering background, preferably certified.
  • Experience working within agile development methodologies, particularly SCRUM or SAFe.
  • Thorough knowledge of IEC 62443 and Secure Development Practices is required
  • Proven history of raising the SW development maturity and capabilities of organizations, particularly having taken organizations towards CMM level 4 or higher.
  • A good understanding of Software Product Line Engineering & software modularization.
  • Experience with Model-based software development is a positive. Additionally, familiarity with AI and Machine Learning is also a benefit

This position can be based out of our office in Aarhus, Denmark or Porto, Portugal.
