Vestas Factory

Does guiding a team of industry experts and evolving Vestas turbine simulation capabilities to meet the goals of the next decade excite you? Would you like to drive the advancement of the simulation's tools used for predicting the aeroelastic performance, mechanical loads and power performance of the world's best turbines?

Then you might be the value-stream lead candidate we are looking for!

Power Solutions & Vestas Quality > Product Solutions & Integration > Loads & Control > LaC Modelling

Vestas Power Solutions is the cornerstone of Vestas. Through innovation, development and continuous product improvement, we develop products and technologies that reduce the cost of energy and bring the highest possible value to our customers and Vestas. To put it short, Vestas Power Solutions develops the wind power systems of the future.

As a part of Vestas Power Solutions, Product Solutions & Integration is responsible for designing the product architecture and product roadmap in response to market roadmap requirements, translating the product architecture and roadmap into module requirements, and full Value Chain Integration. Loads and Control (LaC), as part of Product Solutions & Integration, is responsible for designing and optimizing the product for load and control strategy together with cross-product design work. The department consists of highly skilled, international, and well-experienced engineers who are taking accountability for all aspects of the LaC solution delivered to the products, which are placed across 3 design locations: Portugal, Denmark and India.

Inside LaC Modelling, the Aeroelastic Modelling Value Stream focuses on guiding improvements to the aeroelastic calculation toolchain while making sure accuracy and execution speed are always balanced to obtain the best business results for Vestas.

Standing at the intersection of physical modelling of elastic multibody dynamics, rotor aerodynamics, dynamical systems stability and vibration analysis, and software development, our aeroelastic modelling team is tasked with the continuous development, maintenance, and support of a set of software tools used to predict our turbine performance and load levels, not least our very own aeroelastic code, the Vestas Turbine Simulator (VTS).

Taken together, it is the output of such tools that guides design decisions and optimizes product applications, which makes them a cornerstone of Vestas technical capabilities.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is to ensure that the technical aspects of the Value Stream are aligned with the business goals, the Department Vision, and the Product/Project requirements. Facilitate our team of Specialists tasked with VTS/VStab improvement projects spanning areas of better physical accuracy, increased modelling capabilities and advanced software integration.

This will span leading responsibilities such as:

  • Support project planning and resource estimation, and balance the value streams short-term and long-term portfolio

  • Delegating activities and supporting execution

  • Managing stakeholders across the organization to align on specific requirements for new features

  • Aligning with other colleagues on how to raise the bar of tool development to achieve software development quality excellence (CI/CD, Documentation, Testing, Bug fixing processes, etc.)

Some technical responsibilities will also be in scope, such as:

  • Supporting the design of technical solutions for new features and capabilities of VTS

  • Technical risk assessment of proposed code changes

Qualifications

  • M.Sc/M.tech or similar in Mechanical engineering, structural engineering, aerodynamics, computational engineering, civil engineering or similar

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience 5 of which in load calculations or aeroelastic stability analysis

  • Previous experience with code development in a relevant context

  • Experience with technical leading or management of small teams of expert engineers

Competencies

  • Experience with wind turbine modelling tools like Flex5, Bladed or HAWC2

  • Basic knowledge of control systems and applications of feedback control to mechanical systems

  • Previous experience with overseeing complex technology projects within a relevant industry environment

  • Experience with project management, business case evaluation and project risk assessment

It is expected that you can facilitate engineering solutions within the area from start to end. You should be pragmatic and quality-conscious, eager to take up tasks and not be afraid to challenge the status quo. We expect you to be humble, patient, and resilient towards improving our simulation codebase.

What We Offer

We offer an opportunity to be part of a team in an exciting business with a very comprehensive product range. The working environment in Loads & Control is informal but with clear direction. You will be part of a project-oriented organization with very competent colleagues in an inspiring work environment.
