Join the Vestas Converter Control - Machine Side team as a Converter Control Lead Engineer and take ownership of designing and developing control software, implementing new features, and mentoring junior engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.

You will be part of the Converter Control - Machine Side team. This is a small and dedicated generator control team. Like the rest of the department, this team focuses on maintaining an open-minded and welcoming team spirit. It is believed that joy and motivation are key factors in producing high-quality control solutions.

The Generator control team is facing an exciting future that is expanding the demand for skill sets within the team. Controlling and optimizing the performance of the converter and generator is still the main target of the team.

 

Responsibilities

  • You will be part of the Converter Control development team, which lays out converter requirements, owns converter control design and performs control software development, testing and verification

  • You will be engaged in projects developing new features and making changes, improvements and updates to existing converter control software based on feedback from the field (Vestas turbines in operation) and customer requirements

  • You will take ownership of the technical tasks and solutions in different projects and actively work with the rest of the converter control team and its stakeholders.

  • You will facilitate projects and teams into new features and improvements of existing products

  • You will be responsible for guiding and coaching less experienced engineers, overseeing the team to deliver high-quality solutions

 

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience in the Power Converter Industry with relevant knowledge in converter machine side control

  • Master or PhD in Engineering within Power or Electrical Engineering

  • Knowledge and experience in control of electrical machines like permanent magnets and induction generators

  • Knowledge about the drive train’s dynamics and mechanical vibrations is ideal

  • Knowledge and experience in Controls. This includes modelling of dynamic systems for control analysis, designing of controllers, software implementation of controllers and verification of controllers via simulations and tests

  • Experience with control of power electronics (such as PWM strategies for 3-phase converters, sampling of PWM-operated converters and control loops of 3-phase converters such as current control, DC voltage control, and active or reactive power control)

  • Experience with embedded control for power electronic conversion, development, and management of industrial software implementation

  • Experience in handling high-complexity industrial projects, with knowledge of project management methodologies

  • Highly independent and self-initiated to learn

  • Highly skilled in problem-solving, analysis, and debugging

  • Experience in defining functional specifications, conducting system validation, and preparing technical documentation

  • Being skilled in estimating tasks and communicating with Tech Leads and project managers

  • Being able to guide and coach team members, ensuring the quality of team deliverables

  • Highly skilled in Matlab, Simulink, PLECS and C
