Aeroelastic Stability Specialist
Aarhus N, Region Central Jutland, DK, 8200 Leça do Balio, Grande Porto, PT, 4465-671

Shape the future of wind energy.
Join Vestas as an Aeroelastic Stability Specialist and tackle complex engineering challenges that influence next-generation wind turbine design.
Use your expertise in aeroelasticity, simulation, and stability analysis to drive innovation, guide critical technical decisions, and help deliver safe, reliable, and high-performing renewable energy solutions.
Vestas Technology & Operations > Research & Development > Loads & Control (LaC) > LaC Modelling
Loads & Control (LaC) is responsible for designing and optimizing Vestas' wind turbine products with respect to structural loads, energy performance, and control strategies. The department plays a pivotal role in translating product and technology roadmaps into robust, scalable, and certifiable engineering solutions across the entire product lifecycle.
Within LaC, the LaC Modelling team owns the aero-servo-elastic simulation capabilities that enable critical engineering decisions throughout turbine development. These capabilities support areas such as blade design, system integration, load assessment, and aeroelastic stability evaluation, combining advanced physical modelling, numerical simulation, and industrialized software solutions.
As wind turbines continue to increase in size and complexity, accurate prediction of turbine behaviour and stability has become increasingly important. To strengthen this strategic capability, we are seeking an Aeroelastic Stability Specialist who will serve as a technical authority within the domain.
In this role, you will be responsible for defining, governing, and continuously advancing Vestas' aeroelastic stability capabilities across the turbine lifecycle. You will drive the development of methodologies, simulation frameworks, and best practices that ensure stability risks are identified, understood, and managed in a consistent and traceable manner.
The expectation is to achieve consistent stability decision-making across platforms, minimize blade-design rework caused by late identification of stability issues, ensure end-to-end traceability of stability evidence, strengthen correlation with test and field data, and drive adoption of standardized stability workflows through governed pipelines.
Responsibilities
As an Aeroelastic Stability Specialist, you will:
- Serve as the technical authority for aeroelastic stability, providing expert guidance and driving stability-related decisions across products, technologies, and development projects
- Own Aeroelastic Stability as a governed service, including machine-readable stability criteria, standardized assessment outputs, version-controlled stability model libraries, applicability boundaries, risk classification, and evidence packages for product, blade, service, and certification decisions
- Define and maintain stability standards, assessment criteria, and governance frameworks to support consistent decision-making across the organization
- Lead validation and verification activities, correlating simulation results with test and field data to improve model accuracy and confidence in engineering decisions
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders, including blade design, system integration, service, certification, and modelling teams, to manage stability risks and align on technical requirements
- Investigate and resolve complex aeroelastic stability challenges, translating technical insights into actionable recommendations that support product development and operational performance
- Shape the future aeroelastic stability roadmap, driving innovation, capability development, and technical leadership to support next-generation wind turbine technologies
Qualifications
- Masters or PhD in Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace/Aeronautical, Computational, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years focused on aeroelastic stability analysis of wind turbines, with demonstrated ownership of stability methodologies, assessment criteria, or modelling frameworks used across engineering organizations
- Experience defining stability criteria, stability-margin methodologies, validated model libraries, standardized assessment outputs, and evidence packages used for design, service, and certification decisions
- Knowledge of certification processes, engineering governance, and industry frameworks, including familiarity with Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and the deployment of new technologies into industrial applications
- Experience designing and executing studies, experiments, and validation activities related to wind turbine stability, including the analysis and interpretation of measurement data using techniques such as Operational Modal Analysis (OMA)
- Strong capability in analysing complex datasets to investigate, diagnose, and resolve wind turbine vibration and stability-related issues
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical findings into practical engineering recommendations and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary stakeholders across R&D, testing, certification, and product development teams
Competencies
We are looking for a specialist who combines deep technical expertise with strong analytical capabilities, technical leadership, and sound engineering judgment.
- Extensive experience with wind turbine aeroelastic modelling and simulation tools, including both time-domain (e.g., HAWC2, Flex5, Bladed) and frequency-domain (e.g., HAWCStab2) environments
- Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and initiatives within the wind energy or related engineering industries
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical challenges and identify practical solutions
- Demonstrated engineering judgment and technical credibility, capable of challenging assumptions while maintaining a collaborative and pragmatic approach
- Comfortable making technical decisions under uncertainty, using structured reasoning and clearly documenting assumptions, risks, and recommendations
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and technical domains
What we offer
We offer an opportunity to be part of a global team in an exciting business with a very comprehensive product range. You will hold long‑term technical ownership of a critical engineering capability, with direct influence on how Vestas defines, validates, and certifies aeroelastic stability. The working environment in Loads & Control is informal but with clear strategic direction. You will be part of a project-oriented organization with highly skilled colleagues in an inspiring work environment. Accountability, Collaboration, Simplicity and Passion are our core values, and we always put safety first.
